Conference No. 1 - Phase B.
Concentration and Relaxation
- What is Concentration?
- The word Concentration is showing us that Consciousness is Centered on Action.
- Concentration is a very great power that allows us to have success in everything we undertake. Concentration occurs when we learn to live the instant. The eternal now. When our different functions work in unison, having our heart as the center.
The key to succeeding in any practice is Concentration. We must practice and struggle until we achieve it.
If during the day we walk around concentrated, at night we will continue concentrated. If during the day we wander, at night as well.
There are two types of Concentration: one in the Inner World and the other in the Outer World. Both are very important.
We find ourselves concentrated when only one thought is sustained. When we sustain full attention on something we can reach Inspiration, and an instant later, Success.
Concentration is the opposite of distraction, Concentration belongs to the Consciousness, distraction belongs to the Ego. If we study distraction we will end up in concentration.
If we can discover all the defects or distracting elements we will reach Concentration.
Learning to center Consciousness on action requires much practice, since the sense of psychological Self-observation is atrophied in almost all human beings, and through this sense Consciousness is centered on action.
The Master Jesus taught us that we had to "Vigil and Pray".
"Vigil" is doing things awake, in a vigil state, in self-observation. Or concentrated.
"Pray" is the desire to Be or Self-Remembrance. And this is the same as relaxing. Pleading to the Divine Mother to eliminate the defect that does not let us concentrate.
- How can we practice Concentration:
- Trying to do thing by thing.
- Without thinking about any other thing.
- Without interrupting one thing to do another.
- Not remembering things that are going to be done later.
- Not remembering things that were already done.
- Keeping ourselves centered on what we are doing.
If we carefully observe the multiple activities of our daily living we will realize that each one of them is done in a mechanical form, given that when we execute them we are thinking about other things. That same fact prevents us from being centered, it also prevents us from seeing all the defects that manifest.
We wake up, we get up, we walk toward the bathroom, we undress, shave, shower, dry off, dress, put on shoes, make the bed, eat breakfast, brush our teeth, say goodbye, go out to the street, etc. But we do not self-observe from instant to instant, which means that we have our consciousness asleep due to lack of use. We do things asleep. And due to the foregoing, there is no self-discovery.
If we begin to self-observe we will discover each one of the defects that participate in each action, that act mechanically committing errors, cause us tension, originate worries, distract, prevent concentration.
When we begin to observe all this, we realize in a direct way the chaos in which we find ourselves. And that we can only order it through permanent relaxation.
- What is Relaxation?
- When we become conscious of any defect that is producing tension in any part of the machine we must necessarily relax so as not to exhaust energies in an unnecessary way. And this is done with a Plea to our Divine Mother like this: "My Mother, kill me this defect ".
- What produces tension?
- Desires.
- Emotions.
- Psychological songs.
- Wrong psychological states.
- Thoughts.
- Worries.
- Internal talks.
- Fight between the different defects.
If we plead in those moments to our particular Divine Mother to eliminate the defect that is producing tension in such center we will notice that She acts immediately, relaxing for us the place where we have observed the defect.
It is necessary to understand why we are tense so that the Mother acts.
Tensions are produced for many reasons:
* We do something we do not like.
* We are afraid that something will turn out badly for us.
* We want to do something we like more.
* What we are going to do later worries us.
* What we did before did not turn out well.
* What we did before turned out very well for us.
* We do not know how to do what we are doing.
* We are worried about something we will have to do.
* We are distracted by something.
- How do we know that we have already relaxed?
- It happens when all tension has disappeared and our psychology has normalized. We feel good. We can center ourselves on what we are doing.
- General Relaxation Practice
- In the relaxation of the Physical Body we concentrate on each of the parts of the body. Where our thoughts are, our Consciousness will be, therefore we must imagine and feel each of our body parts in orderly manner. This procedure is repeated three times:
- 1. Right leg: toe by toe, sole, instep, heel, ankle, calf, knee, thigh, the whole leg.
- 2. Left leg: toe by toe, sole, instep, heel, ankle, calf, knee, thigh, the whole leg.
- 3. Right arm: finger by finger, palm, back of hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, the whole arm.
- 4. Left arm: finger by finger, palm, back of hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, the whole arm.
- 5. Trunk: Glutes, genitals, hips, abdomen, waist, chest, shoulders, back, the whole trunk.
- 6. Head: Neck, throat, jaw, tongue, lips, cheeks, nose, eyes, eyebrows, forehead, ears, scalp, the whole head.
- 7. Then we order all muscles, nerves and tendons: "relax, quiet down, calm down".
Relaxation of the psychic part, concentrated in the ears listening to the external sounds captured without imagining or thinking anything (for this we will concentrate in ears for a couple of minutes).
Relaxation of the emotional part, inhaling gently and deeply through the nostrils nasal and exhaling through the mouth as a sigh (at least 5 times).
- Practice of Concentration and Relaxation. Vigil and Pray.
- Protection of the Belilin and Magic Circle.
- Plea for Assistance to the Father and to the Divine Mother.
- Relaxation, observing that the whole body is comfortable.
- We concentrate on the heart to listen and observe the inner world.
- To every little detail observed we go on pleading to the Mother to disintegrate it.
- It can be done until achieving perfect concentration.
