CONF. 18 THE INNER TALK AND THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SONG

  • THE TALK
  • It is urgent, unpostponable, to observe the inner talk and the precise place from which it comes.
  • Unquestionably, the wrong inner talk is the "Causa Causórum" of many inharmonious and unpleasant psychic states in the present and in the future.
  • Obviously, this vain insubstantial talk of ambiguous talk, and in general all harmful, absurd talk manifested in the external world, has its origin in the wrong inner conversation.
  • It is known that there is in the Path the esoteric practice of inner silence.
  • It is not superfluous to say with complete clarity that internal silence must refer
  • specifically, to something very precise and defined.
  • When the process of thinking is intentionally exhausted during deep inner meditation, inner silence is achieved; but this is not what we want to explain in this chapter.
  • " Emptying the mind" or "blanking it" to really achieve inner silence, is not what we are trying to explain now in these paragraphs.
  • Practicing the inner silence to which we are referring does not mean preventing something from penetrating the mind.
  • We are really talking right now about a very different kind of inner silence. It is not something vague and general...
  • We want to practice inner silence in relation to something that is already in
  • the mind, person, event, our own or someone else's business, what we were told, what someone did, etc., but without touching it with the inner tongue, without intimate speech...
  • Learning to be silent not only with the external language, but also with the secret, internal language, is extraordinary, wonderful.
  • Many are silent externally, but with their inner tongue they flay their neighbor alive. Poisonous and malevolent inner talk produces inner confusion.
  • If you look at the wrong inner talk, you will see that it is made up of half-truths, or of truths that are related to each other in an incorrect way, or something that was added or omitted.
  • Unfortunately, our emotional life is based exclusively on "self-sympathy".
  • To make matters worse, we only sympathize with ourselves, with our "dear Ego", and we feel antipathy and even hatred with those who do not sympathize
  • with us.
  • We love ourselves too much, we are one hundred percent narcissistic, this is irrefutable.
  • If we continue to be bottled up in "self-sympathy," any development of the Being becomes more than impossible.

We need to learn to see someone else's point of view. It is urgent to know how to put ourselves in the position of others.

" Therefore, whatever you would have men do to you, do you also to them."* (Matthew: VII, 12).

What really counts in these studies is the way in which men behave internally and invisibly towards one another.

Unfortunately, although we are very courteous and even sincere at times, there is no doubt that invisibly and internally we treat each other very badly. Apparently very kind people, they drag their fellow men daily into the secret cave of themselves, in order to do with them whatever they want (humiliation, mockery, ridicule, etc.).

  • THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SONG.
  • The time has come to reflect very seriously on what is called "inner consideration".
  • There is not the slightest doubt about the disastrous aspect of "intimate self-consideration"; this, in addition to hypnotizing consciousness, makes us lose a lot of energy.
  • If one did not make the mistake of identifying oneself so much, inner self-consideration would be more than impossible.
  • When one identifies with oneself, loves oneself too much, feels pity for oneself, considers oneself, thinks that one has always behaved very well with the rest, with one's wife, with one's children, etc., and that no one has been able to appreciate it, etc.
  • In short, he is a saint, and all the others are evil, rascals.
  • One of the most common forms of intimate self-consideration is concern about what others may think about oneself; perhaps they suppose that we are not honest, sincere, truthful, courageous, etc.
  • The most curious thing about all this is that we regrettably ignore the enormous loss of energy that this kind of worry brings us.
  • Many hostile attitudes toward certain people who have done us no harm are due precisely to such preoccupations born of intimate self-consideration.
  • In these circumstances, loving oneself so much, considering oneself in this way, the defect, or rather the defects, instead of being extinguished, is then frightfully fortified.
  • Identified with oneself, one takes pity on one's own situation and even takes
  • to make accounts. This is how he thinks that anybody, that the neighbor, that the boss, that the friend, etc., has not paid him as he should despite all his well-known goodness and bottled up in this becomes unbearable and boring for everyone.
  • With such a subject, one can practically not talk because any conversation is sure to end up in his little book of accounts and his much-vaunted sufferings. It is written that in Inner Esoteric Work, psychic growth is only possible
  • through forgiveness of others.

If someone lives from moment to moment, instant to instant, suffering for what is owed to him, for what was done to him, for the bitterness they caused him, always with the same song, nothing can grow inside him.

The Lord's Prayer has said: *"Forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our relatives".

The feeling that one is owed, the pain for the evils that others have caused him, etc., stops all interior progress of the soul.

Jesus the Great Kabir said: "Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him on the way, lest the adversary hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the bailiff, and you be thrown into prison. Truly I say to you, you will not get out of there until you pay the last quarter." (Matthew, V, 25, 26).

If they owe us, we must. If we demand that we be paid to the last denarius, we must first pay to the last quarter.

This is the 'Law of Talion', 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth'." Vicious circle", absurd.

The apologies, the full satisfaction and the humiliations that we demand from others for the wrongs they have caused us, are also demanded of us, even if

we consider ourselves "meek sheep".

To place oneself under unnecessary laws is absurd, but to put oneself under new influences. The Law of Mercy has a higher influence than the Law of violent man: "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth".

It is urgent, indispensable, and cannot be postponed, to place ourselves intelligently under the marvelous influences of the Esoteric Inner Work, to forget that we are owed and to eliminate in our psyche any form of self-consideration.

We must never admit within ourselves feelings of revenge, resentment, negative emotions, anxieties about the evils that have been caused to us, violence, envy, incessant remembrance of debts, etc.

This path is intended for those sincere aspirants who truly want to work and change.

If we observe people, we can show in a direct way that each person has his own song.

Everyone sings their own psychological song; I want to refer emphatically to the question of psychological accounts; feeling that one is owed, complaining, self-considerating, etc.

Sometimes people "sing their song, just like that", without being sung, without being encouraged and on other occasions after a few glasses of wine...

We say that our boring song must be eliminated; it incapacitates us inwardly, robs us of a lot of energy.

In matters of Revolutionary Psychology, someone who sings too well, we are not referring to the beautiful voice, nor to the physical song, certainly cannot go beyond himself; he stays in the past...

A person impeded by sad songs cannot change his Level of Being; he cannot go beyond what he is.

To pass to a Higher Level of Being, it is necessary to stop being what one is; We need not to be what we are.

If we continue to be what we are, we will never be able to pass to a Higher Level of Being.

In the field of practical life, unusual things happen. Very often any person befriends another, just because it is easy for him to sing his song to him. Unfortunately, such relationships end when the singer is asked to shut up, change the record, talk about something else, etc.

Then the resentful singer goes in search of a new friend, someone who is willing to listen to him indefinitely.

Understanding demands the singer, someone who understands him, as if it were so easy to understand another person.

To understand another person, you must understand yourself. Unfortunately, the good singer believes that he understands himself.

There are many disappointed singers who sing the song of not being understood and dream of a wonderful world where they are the central figures. However, not all singers are public, there are also reserved ones; they do not sing their song directly but secretly sing it.

They are people who have worked hard, who have suffered too much, they feel disappointed, they think that life owes them everything they were never able to achieve.

They usually feel an inner sadness, a sense of monotony and frightful boredom, intimate weariness or frustration around which thoughts are piled up. Unquestionably, secret songs block our way on the path of the Inner Self-Realization of the Being.

Unfortunately, such secret inner songs go unnoticed by themselves unless we intentionally observe them.

Obviously, every observation of oneself allows light to penetrate oneself, into

one's intimate depths. No inner change could occur in our psyche unless it was brought into the light of self-observation.

It is indispensable to observe oneself when being alone, in the same way as when being in relationship with people.

When one is alone, very different defects, very different thoughts, negative

emotions, etc., are presented.

You are not always in good company when you are alone. It is hardly normal, it is very natural, to be in very bad company in complete solitude. The

most negative and dangerous defects occur when one is alone.

If we want to transform ourselves radically, we need to sacrifice our own sufferings.

Many times, we express our sufferings in articulated or inarticulate songs.
